Dine & Develop

Join us for an insightful lunch-and-learn at Aberdeen Ridge as we explore effective strategies for communicating with seniors and learn about valuable programs available through UCCS. Featuring Joe Urban from the UCCS Gerontology Program and Michelle Erwin-Pohl from the UCCS Aging Center, this session will highlight the latest research, tools, and community resources that support positive aging and intergenerational understanding. Whether you work directly with seniors or support them in other ways, you’ll walk away with practical knowledge to strengthen your connections and impact.
Schedule and Format: There will be limited networking before these meetings. Please check in by 11:45am. Presentations will begin at 12:00pm. Due to the nature of this format, we kindly ask that you arrive promptly at 11:30am for checkin. To respect presenters and attendees, we will not allow entry past 12pm.
Attendance and Entry: Members are always welcome to bring a non-member and first time guest to SRC events. $25 fee applies if your guest has attended SRC events in the past and is not yet a member. Donations are always appreciated.
Lunch is provided by Aberdeen Ridge.Â

Joe Urban, UCCS Gerontology Program
Joe Urban is currently the facilitator of the UCCS Professional Advancement Certificate in Gerontology. He comes from a senior services background that includes five years as the director of the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging, eighteen years as a director at local continuing care retirement communities, a couple years with a start-up senior service software company and twelve years in the health care sector, primarily with a hospital based fitness program. He has been involved with the day to day workings of independent living, assisted living, memory care and nursing programs. His volunteer involvement has included Pikes Peak Hospice, the Senior Resource Council, the Pikes Peak Community Ethics Committee and the Colorado Commission on Aging.

Michelle Erwin-Pohl from UCCS Aging Center
Michelle Erwin Pohl, MSWÂ is a recent graduate student who holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Over the last several months, she has developed clinical skills and hands-on experience working with older adults as a student clinician at the UCCS Aging Center. Her approach is rooted in connection and collaboration, both with clients and with the broader network of community organizations that support them. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys traveling, going to concerts and comedy shows, and playing video games. She and her husband Adam reside in Colorado Springs with their two cats, Toby and Pepper.
