The Henjum Accolades is named in honor of one of the Senior Resource Council’s co-founding members, Joe Henjum. Joe served our Colorado Springs Community in many ways.

After retiring from the Air Force, Joe served as the General Manager of Cheyenne Place Retirement Community for 13 years. His efforts in this role improved living conditions for the residents and enhanced the quality of life for the seniors in this community. On the business side, Joe’s contributions to the community increased cash flow and diversified funding pools. The formation of the SRC was, in part, to help support the staff who worked along side Joe at Cheyenne Place.

In the mid-1980s, an informal group of local retirement community managers began meeting to discuss the current and future outlook of the senior housing industry. In 1987, the expanding group formally established as “the council for promoting senior resources in the Pikes Peak Region.” In the early 1990s, a shorter name was adopted, and officially renamed The Senior Resource Council! Joe said, “In my mind, it is to the senior community what the Chamber of Commerce is to the business community. I am happy to say that I am part of starting this volunteer, non profit organization.” Joe served as President of the Senior Resource Council in 1995.
